'Dettol Surakshit Parivar' Programme

We, at Dettol, believe that families adopting good hygiene practices remain better protected against germs and therefore fall ill less often. In an effort to promote these practices and provide superior germ protection to every family, Dettol has launched Dettol Surakshit Parivar, a nationwide campaign, in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The objective of this campaign is to generate awareness that good hygiene practices are essential to reduce the risk of infections, particularly for those who are most vulnerable to illness such as infants and children.

The Programme is being undertaken at three different levels - New Mother Programme, School Handwash Programme and Hospital Programme. Spread across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, it targets new Mother's, school children and the general public.

New Mother Programme

The only protection a newborn baby has from infection is some short-lived immunity passed from mother to baby in the womb. With their still-developing immune systems, they are more likely to get an infection and become seriously ill as a result. Therefore, it is extremely important for new Mother's to be extra careful with personal and home hygiene. Mother's can use Dettol Antiseptic Liquid for multiple uses including disinfecting nappies, surfaces, toys etc. to ensure effective protection against germs and bacteria that cause infection and illness.

The New Mother Programme highlights that following a good hygiene regime from the very start, not only reduces the risk of infection and illness during infancy, but also lays the foundation for good hygiene practices in the future.Under this Programme in 2006, a total of 12 lakh new Mother's will be presented with a Baby Care Booklet along with a bottle of Dettol Antiseptic Liquid to initiate them into adopting good hygiene practices. This booklet details essential hygiene procedures and the immunizations that newborn babies need to protect them from germs and infections.

School Handwash Programme
Hands have been identified as one of the key carriers of germs. Moreover, children tend to pick up illness-causing germs, most often from schools. Good hand washing is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of infection. Washing hands with Dettol Liquid Handwash ensures your hands are clean and reduces the risk of infections. It is ten times better at fighting germs* and gives effective protection from bacteria that can cause infection and illness. The School Handwash programme aims to educate children how and why they should wash their hands. Students are also given leaflets on hand-wash hygiene, communicating that washing hands regularly is the single most important thing that one can do to protect oneself from germs and bacteria that cause infection. Students who have not missed a single day at school are given "Dettol 100% Attendance Award" to further encourage them to follow good hygiene practices. The Programme aims to reach a total of 3 lakh children across the 6 metros in 2006.

Hospital Programme

This programme aims to inform the general public about first aid methods, immunization and hygiene by putting posters up in hospitals and maternity homes. In 2006, the Hospital Programme will cover 250 hospitals. It includes hygiene awareness programs that help to educate nurses about the causes of infection and how they can help to prevent illness. These awareness programs stress the importance of using solutions such as Dettol Antiseptic Liquid to rapidly kill a range of micro-organisms that cause infections. Dettol Antiseptic Liquid can be used to disinfect a wide range of hard surfaces, floors and clothes. Our aim is to instil good hygiene values, which are very important in the hospital environment and in the community at large.
